Biography
Dr. Pablo Santos-Iglesias is an Assistant Professor, having recently joined the CBU Psychology Department in 2019. Pablo was born and raised in Spain, where he completed his undergraduate and graduate education. After completing his MA in Research Methods in Psychology and Health in 2007, Pablo received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Granada in 2012. The focus of his research was on sexual assertiveness and its effect on sexual health and well-being.
In 2013 he moved to Canada (University of New Brunswick) as the recipient of a prestigious Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship to study the sexual well-being of women living with fibromyalgia. Since 2015, he has been working in the field of psychosocial oncology (University of Calgary), contributing to the understanding of the role of psychosocial variables in sexual recovery of men with prostate cancer.
Research Interests:
Pablo’s research interests are in the area of human sexuality and the development and validation of sexuality-related measures. Using a biopsychosocial approach, Pablo’s research program focuses on the variables and factors that contribute to the sexual well-being of men and women, with a special focus on vulnerable groups, such as those living with chronic illnesses (e.g., chronic pain, cancer) and older adults. These people often feel their sexual rights neglected, as they are seen as asexual and uninterested in sex. Pablo’s research has shown that people from vulnerable groups not only are interested, but also enjoy their sexual lives. Furthermore, having a pleasurable sexual life has a tremendous positive impact on their overall well-being and quality of life.
Pablo’s research program also focuses on the development and validation of sexuality-related measures. The measurement of psychological constructs is of utmost importance; the quality, replicability, and generalizability of psychological and sexuality research depends on the quality of the questionnaires and measures that we use to assess variables and test theories. Pablo has been developing and validating sexuality-related measures throughout his entire career and has developed an extensive expertise in the field.
